Maple Festival Parade
Historical Pageant, "The Legend of the Magic Water"
Join us for a festival in Meyersdale to promote the sweetest of all Pennsylvania's commodities, our own Somerset County maple syrup. After a delicious breakfast, you wonít want to miss the Festivalís Grand Feature Parade, one of the largest parades in the area. You will hear marching bands as they march through the street. Lots of floats, twirling groups, rescue trucks, and of course, lots of horses. Visit the historic Meyers Homestead where you see part of the original structure including its first kitchen with the large stone fireplace and log walls. Shop at the Country Store where you will find all types of maple products and souvenirs. The heart of the Maple Festival is at Festival Park, where youíll discover the way country life was at the turn of the Century. Learn how to tap a tree, boil sap into syrup, make sugar cakes, twirl spotza and sugar off. The Festival concludes with the Legend of the Magic Water, (with a cast of more than 100 local people from newborns to 80+ year-olds) which tells the story of the discovery of maple syrup and the history of Meyersdale through song, dance, and narration.
