Lyndhurst Mansion – Guided Tour also known as the Jay Gould estate, is a Gothic Revival country house that sits in its own 67-acre park beside the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, Unlike later mansions along the Hudson River, Lyndhurst's rooms are few and of a more modest scale, and strongly Gothic in character. Hallways are narrow, windows small and sharply arched, and ceilings are fantastically peaked, vaulted, and ornamented. The effect is at once gloomy, somber, and highly romantic; the large, double-height art gallery provides a contrast of light and space.
Sunnyside – is a historic house on 10 acres along the Hudson River, in Tarrytown, New York. This was the home of the American author Washington Irving, best known for his short stories, such as “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and "Rip Van Winkle" . This estate reflects Dutch Colonial Revival, Scottish Gothic, and Tudor Revival influences. Sunnyside is now operated as a museum. The museum contains a large collection of Irving's original furnishings and accessories; in particular, all furniture and most accessories in his writer's study are original. The study, dining room, parlor, kitchen, as well as most bedrooms, are open to the public and contain many of the original furnishings owned by the Irving family, with some period-appropriate furnishings from other sources.
Old Dutch Graveyard - Enjoy a guided tour. Founded around 1685, this is the church and churchyard that appear in Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The church’s 2.5-acre burying ground is, of course, the purported haunt of the headless horseman, and also the resting place of local citizens who likely inspired Irving’s characters of Katrina Van Tassel, Brom Bones, and others.
