National Harbor, the 300-acre waterfront development near Washington, DC, hosts a festive season of holiday events along the Potomac River including a Christmas tree lighting, a holiday market, live entertainment, holiday movies, photos with Santa and fireworks.
Christmas at Mt. Vernon - Christmas was primarily a religious holiday in eighteenth century Virginia. It was also, however, a festive occasion marked by visits between friends and relatives, celebratory parties, and public assemblies. As described by George Washington's correspondence, diaries and cash accounts, Christmas at Mount Vernon followed a typical pattern for the region and time period. Special festivities include themed decorations, a gingerbread Mount Vernon, historical chocolate-making demonstrations, 18th-century dancing, and even a Christmas camel just like George Washington had on the grounds during Christmas of 1787.
Hillwood Museum & Gardens - Opened as a public institution in 1977, today Hillwood's allure stems from the equally fascinating parts that make up the whole. From the captivating life of Marjorie Post to the exquisitely maintained Mansion and Gardens, the experience of Hillwood outshines even the Fabergé Eggs. Enjoy the Mansion and Estate trimmed with festive greenery and décor for the holidays.
ICE at Gaylord National Resort - At the Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor, visitors step inside a winter wonderland created entirely of 5,000 BLOCKS of ice weighing 1.5 MILLION POUNDS! hand-sculpted by 40 international artisans and kept at a chilling nine degrees Fahrenheit. Produced exclusively for Gaylord Hotels, the attraction is fully interactive, allowing guests to roam inside, around and on-top of holiday scenes.
